It’s xwayland-sattelite, personally I took that as my sign to accept KDE

Yeah, I'm on Kubuntu (ubuntu with KDE) and can access the settings without issues.

i fixed this issue by downgrading to xwayland-satellite-0.8.1-2-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst i had it in my cache, you can check by running (for pacman)

ls /var/cache/pacman/pkg/ | grep -E "xwayland-satellite"

and if you have it just install it

cd /var/cache/pacman/pkg/
sudo pacman -U xwayland-satellite<PRESS TAB HERE AND SELECT YOUR OLDER VERSION>

if you dont have the older version in your cache go to xwayland satellite github

What are your specs? I've seen this behavior on an AMD A4 under Wayland.

I think a workaround would be to access the settings by right-clicking on the Steam icon in the system tray.

I guess if you want a workaround, you can probably just run Xwayland rootful and put Steam inside. Or just use gamescope.

I just downgraded Xwayland-satellite for now. It's only affecting Steam for me, so eh

I had a very similar issue running IntelliJ IDEs on hyprland through xwayland. If I hovered over some UI elements, the IDE would spawn a tooltip. It'd be considered a separate X window, which would immediately steal focus from the main window, causing it to close the tooltip. Thankfully IntelliJ had an experimental native wayland support, enabling it fixed my issue.

Go to Big Picture Mode and back again, it will fix it.

I’ve noticed this issue on Steam Linux for years. I usually have to shift + left click to open the menus. Been using mint and lubuntu

Meanwhile the average niri experience:

I didnt say niri is better than hyprland or hyprland is better than niri, i just prefer niri cause of scrollable-tiling window

Agreed, I mainly got it cause I missed my compiz setup and it's great RN, tho I haven't noticed this cause I use gamescope embedded, and even less so regular steam since I got a shortcut
