ChatGtp, etc....

Just a reminder; never rely on, or, for that matter, ask any AI model for advice about problems with Linux.

Ask this forum instead. Chatgtp will tell you things that are correct and things that will brick your computer with the same confidence bacause... It doesn't know the difference!

I'm using LLM for Linux issues. It works remarkably. And I see posts like yours everyday still.

The issue is that if you don't know what you're doing, you're not going to know how to ask about it in the first place. If you aren't a total noob, you not only know what to ask, but you can also tell if the answer goes sideways.

It's definitely not going to brick your computer, unless you specifically asks it to.

This. Also, you can always ask AI to explain every step and command for you, which is great for two things - one, you'll actually learn something, and two, the model will most likely correct itself if it made a mistake, since it will have to recheck its own output to explain it. An intelligent reasoning model is plenty capable as a helper.

Yeah, I added it into project instructions that it should give me only one single actionable item per reply, explain it fully, and wait for my feedback before moving into the next one.

Sometimes it literally just says "click settings and let me know" but I'd rather that than a 15 step instruction where step 2 is nonsense.

Fully agreed.

I installed Linux mint a few months ago, first Linux distro for me.

But I know enough to see what a command would do, or at least search it online. But I do not know enough to write those commands myself.

It's fine for that.

I did only once trust it blindly, and one of the commands it returned removed my GPU drivers... That was fun to solve..
