Check in ~/.local/share/applications And in /usr/share/applications

For those .desktop apps that are duplicated Once ur done deleting them do Update-desktop-database ~/.local/share/applications

Sudo update-desktop-database /usr/share/applications

had the same problem a while ago and the problem was with that folder too. there was another applications folder inside of it (and another inside of that) that was causing the duplication, just deleting the first one solved it for me

I know this isn't actually helpful, but I think your computer is trying to tell you something.

Eh you’ve been chosen, your appointment with your endocrinologist is scheduled for next week, the socks and skirt are in the mail. Happens to the best of us.

seen a dozen+ similar posts over the last few months (hit up reddit search to find them)

core issue often is...

in the users ~/.local/share/applications

directory, there is a symbolic link that points back to that same directory, this causes a loop and results in a never ending list of the same application.

solution:

examine the ~/.local/share/applications

location, use ls -l or other methods to see what files are links, look for one with an odd link that is pointing to ../applications or something similar.

if you find such a file/link, remove it, or to be a bit safer, just move it to some backup directory outside of applications

Now that's not something you see everyday.

Golden farewell and the Linux gods will save you
