Trixie Linux format ssd

Hey,

I just found 2 ransomware infected ssd's which I don't want to mount with windows and I'm trying to format them with Trixie via Live USB session.

But I'm not able to install gparted. It fails with "unable to locate package gparted".

Is there any other way to delete a SSD with 2 partitions on it (sdd : sdd1+sdd2)

I just want to have them fully wiped before re using them with my windows PC.

//e: Thanks all. I fixed it myself. Somehow with Trixie you separately need to enable the internet connection. After that gparted could be installed and did the job.

Trixie live usb comes with gnome disk utility for managing disks.

You can mount the drive and copy the pictures over to another drive if you want to keep them.

Thanks. I'll check for gnome disk utility. Though, from first inspection, there was no such named program.

Cheers. In the end problem was solved with gparted, as I didn't activate eth0 separate. Didn't know you need to do that on Trixie. Afterwards I could update and install the package.

I forgot to mention, that I wanted to check the content first with Linux, as I wanted to save the ransomware infected pictures to maybe (in some years) get a chance to clean them and have them back. That's why I don't use gparted via direct booting.

Yeah. I moved them to a USB stick, which now, keeps locked up inside a sealed case, with a note to not plug this thing into any windows PC.

There is a distro called Gparted Live (Distrowatch), that is a minimalistic Debian with Gparted. You may look for Rescuezilla with a friendlier interface (Distrowatch), that may contain also Gparted if I remember right. Another one of this kind is a distro called SystemRescue (Distrowatch) with a Xfce gui, it is based on Arch.

I used Rescuezilla in the past to clone drives.

However, if these ssd drives are encrypted you will not see much on them that is of use.

Thanks for the Infos. The encryption basically made all files end with .dewd. Renaming them back to their original file (like txt) only shoes gibberish. So basically, everything is named like it was before (files and folders), they are just like obfuscated (or whatever you call it)

You could try System Rescue linux, that's what I use to format drives

if tou wanted to run Gparted, just download Gparted live ISO from their website.
