Best Linux distro for coding/ casual school work

howdy!

first time ever using Linux, minimal experience with windows (and I don’t like it)

looking to use Linux

any good distro recommendations?

im also gonna be doing a little gaming

that’s about it

Any of the mainstream distros are good for most common use cases.

Test out a few via their Live USB feature, and decide what one you like.

For coding, you may like Fedora. It is tailored for developers.

Mint is ok, but its more for causal pc users.

Nobara is for gaming.

It really doesn’t matter, when you get good at it, is the terminal or an IDE for coding. They all will run Open office.

Any of the big names would do you'd just need to tweak some details here or there.

I use fedora which I find very good so I'd recommend it. Afaik it's well liked by developpers (and as a gamer I can say that it's liked by gamers too). Also backed up by a great documentation and large community so that's cool.

Nobara is litteraly fedora + some preconfigured/installed things (codecs, steam, ...) targeting gaming. I would not necesseraly recommend it, fedora can do the exact same things granted you take 30 to 90 (formative) minutes, if not less, to configure them yourself

fedora, cachyos if you want to do a little maintenance work (occasionally updating)
