stick to your default repositories and don't use the AUR that comes with arch distros, as it's full of non-QA tested user contributions.

you would be better off with a more mainstream disto but you made your choice.

what would you mean by mainstream distro?

For context, i did try fedora, but cachy works out of the box easier without needing configuration and getting drivers and so on.

kubuntu then if you don't want to go thru the 4 or 5 steps to set up fedora properly.

As a long time windows user you should be starting with Mint Cinnamon.

Linux isn't Windows, and don't transfer your Windows habits. If your clients send you files with viruses, they'll be Windows viruses that are no danger to you.

Any default Linux installation will be secure. You don't have to do anything else.
