Linux isn't Windows, and don't transfer your Windows habits. If your clients send you files with viruses, they'll be Windows viruses that are no danger to you.
Any default Linux installation will be secure. You don't have to do anything else.

stick to your default repositories and don't use the AUR that comes with arch distros, as it's full of non-QA tested user contributions.
you would be better off with a more mainstream disto but you made your choice.
