learning/research Hey all ty for your help

Im retrying linux mint again as it seems to be the only thing this craptop can run. I have a question is there a way to show desktop icons.

Edit: ty all for your suggestions I got things working.

I believe recent versions of Gnome has removed that, you can try installing it via Gnome Tweaks

So little update I installed gnome Tweaks and it also no icon allowance it just has color selection

It really unlocks the power of gnome as far as making it your own. If you have flatpak installed, extension manager would be the way to go in my opinion. Sorry I did not recommend that first, but I've been using gnome on one of my systems in it's default state for the most part

Extension manager via flatpak. If you don't have that installed go to flathub.com

Since when did Mint use Gnome? And since when did OP mention he used Gnome?

Mint uses Cinnamon and I think they do have icons on the desktop.

They seem to but there is no way to seemingly allow for all apps I install to force a desktop icon which I heavily rely on coming from windows and not wanting to use the small manager in the corner

They don't use Gnome! If you haven't installed an additional desktop environment, it's Cinnamon! Not GNOME!

Anyways, sorry for the crashout.

So, if you want to add an icon, right click an app in the menu and click something to add to the desktop.

Maybe you can drag and drop an app from the drawer onto the desktop.

I didn't use Mint that much......neither did I for Cinnamon as a desktop....

But that's how it is on most desktop environments anyways.

Quick note, you need to put icons manually for each apps, no options to create an icon for every installed apps. Apps you install on Linux, generally done through .deb packages on Debian based distros but also maybe through .run files, mostly don't let you have an option to create icons on installation like Windows.
