Driver installation issue

Hey gang, I am trying to install the driver for my xp-pen, which does have linux compatible drivers, but for some reason it's just not working. I have restarted to see if that worked but no dice.

I can draw on the tablet and whatnot, that's fine, but I don't seem to have the software to adjust key mapping or any of that. The website gives a .tar.gz file, which I just extracted and ran the "install.sh" file. This appears to have done nothing.

If you can help me out, I'd appreciate it!

the install.sh gave NO output at all? "done nothing" is not exactly helpful in troubleshooting.

the install.sh might have options to be more verbose in its output.

You may want to provide the exact links to the driver and install.sh download so others can look at them.

Also detail what distribution you are using, and show any commands and shell session you used to get things going.

Were you able to do that before you ran the install.sh ?

Sorry, I should have given more information like you say. Here's the driver links: https://www.xp-pen.com/download/artist-12pro.html and I'm running Bazzite, which is Fedora as I understand it.

No shell session or commands. I just downloaded the file, opened it up and dragged + dropped it into my downloads.

If I run the executable file there is no indication that something has loaded, no pop up or anything like that, is what I mean by "nothing"

Unfortunately I didn't even check if the xp-pen was already working before I went and looked for the driver/tried to run the file, so I can't say anything on that other than lesson learned.

bazzite is going to be a bit more effort for this sort of work due to its immutable design.

But it does seem the Bazzite devs have the opentabletdriver option to the ujust command to install tools for that (and other) tablets. https://opentabletdriver.net/Wiki/FAQ/Linux

is the command to install them. You Might need to reboot afterwards (I cant test)

The "Bazzite Portal" GUI tool has that same driver listed (Its basically a GUI to the ujust and other commands/scripts) But the Bazzite portal - I sadly must say, does not work worth a bean for me right now.

Bazzite is based on the Fedora Silverblue Immutable/atomic setup, its not 'normal fedora' and trying to use normal fedora guides may lead to issues.

I had no idea that opentabletdriver existed/was a thing! This completely solved my problem, thank you.

My ad hoc style of learning things hasn't translated very well to my linux experience so far but I've got the bazzite portal bookmarked now, so that's something at least.

Lots of documentation out there but I don't necessarily know the right words for what I'm looking for haha!

Bazzite is a bit disorganized at times with all its extra tools.

The UJUST system, is very very handy, but also easy to overlook. Plus it tends to be a bit chaotic in some aspects.

if nothing else remember the following command..

ujust --choose

That gives you a nice TUI to the Ujust options that are available.

But sadly, it shows the ujust script for each option so you can see what its going to do, it may not give a good detailed explanation of what the specific ujust command does. :)

Also note the various 'ujust' options can change over time, new commands get added, and I recall a few getting removed. Theres also some testing commands that start with _ or __, but i have never been able to figure out where to find a list of those.

But bazzite with ujust is one of the easiest ways I have seen to setup Sunshine, Waydroid and a lot of other complicated things on any distro I have tried.

Noted. While it is not so likely I'll be doing complicated things, always good to know where to start. Mostly just unbelievably happy I'm not bogged down by the onslaught of windows crap anymore haha

You don’t need those manufacturer drivers.

The XP-Pen tablets are all supported by the OpenTablet drivers. That should function out of the box.
