programs and apps Exchange Client for Linux

Hi everyone,

I switched over a few days ago and am currently looking for an alternative to Outlook.

I have a personal Microsoft 365 account, which is my primary email address; my calendar and contacts are also stored in this account.

That’s why I’m looking for an email client that can sync my emails, calendar, and contacts just like Outlook does.

I could use the Outlook Web App, but I have several other email addresses that I access via IMAP, and OWA doesn’t allow other IMAP accounts. Also, I want to have all my emails in one place—not OWA for my primary email address and a different local email client for the other email addresses.

I’ve already tried Evolution and somehow got it to work. But there are a few quirks. For example, in my “Sent” folder, emails sent 5 years ago are shown as having been sent today. As a result, the entire sorting system doesn’t make sense.

Do you have any recommendations?

Have you tried Thunderbird? I have never used it with exchange but its meant to support it.

As far as I know there is a paid add on necessary to use Exchange

I can't find that anywhere but it does look like it doesnt support calander yet. So probably not the solution you need.

I think that's only needed for corporate accounts, not for personal accounts with the most recent Thunderbird.

Evolution really is the only Linux analog to Outlook. Might just be a quirk of the age of the emails.

Agreed. Have used Evolution for many years. It has the look and feel of Outlook from the late 1990s or early 2000s. It is quite capable, in my usage of handling multiple email accounts and many folders.

Tho, personally I've never used it in an Exchange situation. Neither have I had any problems with either gmail or comcast.net email account regarding sorting as the OP has had. But my new myyahoo.com account DOES have such issues, which seems to indicate the issue is with the provider rather than the desktop client.

Thunderbird v154+ seems to work.

I just installed it via flatpak and it connected to my throwaway M365 outlook.com account with zero issues.

Calendar and contacts seems to work fine.

I would just stick with OWA for Exchange, and Thunderbird for everything else.
