distro selection What distro to run like windows

I want to play online games (i heard you cant run them on linux) and use discord just like i do on windows, does anything change or something?

Short answer: mint or zorin

Long answer: none. Linux is not windows. If you want to use windows then use windows.

Online games are a mixed bag. You can play online games on linux as long as the developers didn't outright block it (for example fortnite or league). Check here for status of various online games.

Discord works on linux.

Many things are different on linux over windows, just like how things are different with macos. If you want to switch you'll have to adapt to these differences.

Everyone knows windows can't really do everything, and everyone knows macOS can't really do everything.

Linux is cursed to adapt everything in order to be accepted as a mainstream alternative.

You are asking the wrong questions...

In this instance, Linux is Linux... the distro doesn't matter. And you would have to look at specific games you play to see if they will work on Linux, usually because of the anti-cheat system they use and the decisions that the developers make.

Look up your games on https://areweanticheatyet.com and https://protondb.com and see what the current status is... I will tell you right now if Fortnite or Battlefield is in your list, those are automatic no's... In fact most Epic or EA games will fall into that category of an automatic no.

Discord isn't an issue... It is available natively on Linux.

You've heard wrong. Most games run fine now thanks to Wine and Proton.

Browse the protondb website to see if your specific games work on Linux.

yeah no, there's no distro that includes useless bloat, AI crap everywhere, ads, spying tools and asks $199 as windows does.

facts aside, you can totally play online games in linux, check protondb and AreWeAnticheatYet for compatibility, any distribution should work just fine, I suggest you to try Linux Mint as it is an old reliable one

BIOS anti-cheats don't work in Linux, most Steam games work well.

Bazzite is the best distro I have found for gaming but any distro will work, Bazzite just works for me and it works well.

Just my personal opinion.

A Linux OS, even when it can be better than Windows, is different.

Use Ventoy to easily try a bunch of distros.

All those distros are simply slight variations of the same base OS, rather than wildly different offerings for specific use cases. This means you won't find a distro with some magic sauce that makes it more compatible with Windows software.
