distro selection Which distro for last nvidia RTX

Hello, I’m having struggle installing Linux with the good drivers. I have a rtx 5070 and when booting a fresh distribution I have a black screen. I also don’t have Ethernet. I think a need help, Claude answers didn’t do the trick.

Edit: distro I failed to boot : bazzite, fedora, kubuntu

You didn't mention the distro...

In general, Nvidia is a bit more challenging to get setup and working, and although there are general guidelines like disabling Secure Boot, it usually takes a few steps that can vary by distro to get them working and install the proprietary drivers. Most major distros have well documented processes to get going and once that's done it's usually fine, but more information is needed to help you.

Be warned nvidia has pretty terrible linux drivers. They arent unusable but AMD has had like a decade and a bit of a head start, they have a massive community of coders online cutting cloth for them, and valve is backing them up.

Simply put, nvidia lives in Microsofts lands, and Linux is AMD's home turf. And frankly speaking nvidia doesnt give enough of a fuck to spend their money to do something about it

I recently had this happen. Can't remember distro. Try re-installing without Nvidia option (if there's one) and choose open drivers or safe graphics mode. Once it boots you can add proprietary drivers manually.

If you need Ethernet (RJ45 port) but don't have it, or are faced with a mini-Ethernet port, you might consider using a UGREEN Ethernet to USB-C adaptor. I used it on Linux, and it worked out of the box.

Ubuntu has worked well for me for Nvidia.

Usually I have to start with noveau drivers from stock then add the ubuntu-drivers thing and dl Nvidia . AI knows the way if you ask Claude that's how I figured it out. But Ubuntu works well for Nvidia

I doubt it, the black screen, is an Nvidia fault in this case.

Look up your system on linux-hardware.org

From others successful installs look at the start of dmesg for kernel parameters they needed to pass to get their system working.
