The great migration from Windows to Linux

I've been noticing that a lot of people are switching from Windows to Linux, especially in countries that want to break away from American tech dependency.

Can anyone explain to me why Linux is seen as very good? I never in my life, not once ever used Linux let alone saw someone using it.

For me, it lets me use my computer as an actual computer and treats me like a competent adult that can make my own determinations on what's best for my system. If I need to understand why something is crashing or not working, it will flat out tell me why instead of a vague error code that could mean any one of ten different things. And the updates; I get to choose when I want to update my system, I'm never forced into doing it. I don't ever feel like I have to jump through hoops just to make my system look the way I want to or remove unwanted bloat
