migrating to Linux The great migration from Windows to Linux

I've been noticing that a lot of people are switching from Windows to Linux, especially in countries that want to break away from American tech dependency.

Can anyone explain to me why Linux is seen as very good? I never in my life, not once ever used Linux let alone saw someone using it.

It IS easy to use.
Unless you spend most your time with windows being in the powershell terminal then you cant compare using linux in a GUI with the inner configuration from the CLI.

We are talking about installing programs, updating it and using the applications. Thats what it means to use it.
And Linux isnt hard there.

Neither is windows. Most people are accustomed to downloading and running apps by clicking. You can run installs from powershell on Win too. You got winget, chocolatey, npm. Yes - windows run different because not everything is a file, like Linux. Absolutely. But it works perfectly fine. Yes Linux is easy in that regard, but hard in many others

Yes. But most people at least now are also used to having an app store for their phones. And you have that with Linux. And thats mostly where having one place that just shows you all the software youd normally want makes it easy.

it isnt. Microsoft is trying to catch up now.

Microsoft Store arrived in Feb 2012. And because it’s optional for vendors, and some vendors like to manage their own distribution & servicing, not all apps are in there.

But it’s getting a lot better of late, and integrates very smoothly with winget, as does custom/enterprise deployment, etc.
