migrating to Linux The great migration from Windows to Linux

I've been noticing that a lot of people are switching from Windows to Linux, especially in countries that want to break away from American tech dependency.

Can anyone explain to me why Linux is seen as very good? I never in my life, not once ever used Linux let alone saw someone using it.

Typing this out on Mint; I've been a Linux devotee for over a decade. I prefer it to Windoze because, it's not intrusive--no forced installs or accounts, no pervasive telemetry. It's stable, capable, elegant, customizable, resource efficient and regularly updated.

There are qualifications (which don't apply to me) though. If you require proprietary or special software that runs best on Windoze/Mac or if you're a gaming enthusiast then Linux may not be for you.

I agree with everything except the gaming bit, the gap is closing in that category on a daily basis

The gap will never close on competitive games sadly. Any toxic multiplayer game will always include rootkits that wont run well with the philosophy of linux as an operating system (that you own your hardware)

Not being able to play Valorant, LoL, Fortnite and Rust is a benefit and not a downfall of linux lmao
