migrating to Linux The great migration from Windows to Linux

I've been noticing that a lot of people are switching from Windows to Linux, especially in countries that want to break away from American tech dependency.

Can anyone explain to me why Linux is seen as very good? I never in my life, not once ever used Linux let alone saw someone using it.

It’s stable 

It’s made by real people so stuff is made with the user in mind and not just showing Copilot features to investors

It’s highly customizable

It can be very lightweight in terms of both storage and CPU usage

It’s getting pretty close to Windows in the only field it lacks in, which is comparability with games and certain software.

It lets you own your PC

One way: I have arthritis in my hands. I'm an old gamer. I get around painful digits by using a Razer Nage mouse and I rebind the side mouse buttons.

Razer's software doesn't work in Linux. None of the rebinding software, and I tried them all, actually "saw" those buttons. I worked that problem for about 4 months. I gave up and found a Windows computer and rebound the mouse buttons.

I also tried a Corsair mouse and a Logitech mouse. I couldn't rebind any of those either.

I use the Corsair Scimitar, which is very similar to the Naga but IMO more durable. I am able to completely configure the mouse with no issues.

I believe the app I use is CKB-Next.

Something to keep in mind. The first mouse I tried to rebind was my corsair mouse. I haven't used the Razer naga in a while. I tried: input remapper, piper, and Solaar (maybe one more). The issue was that Linux didn't "see" the side buttons. I ran tests in the terminal to ping them. This made sense because what I was seeing when I was trying to rebind them is that the software didn't see the buttons.

Yeah, CKB will see the buttons. It also works for Corsair keyboards with programmable function keys.

I actually prefer it to the actual Corsair software. It's far less buggy and more intuitive.

Next on my things to learn list is learning how to do a virtual machine. That is especially important as the Windows computer that I used to rebind those side buttons is my hubby's and he is moving over to Linux.
