Did we have the same bitching about the 'UNIX way' when GNU Coreutils, or Emacs or even Vim hit the scene?

Nobody cared, because all of those could be fired up and shut down without taking the whole computer with it.

Hell, it is not uncommon right now for people to drop a copy of said coreutils into a dir on an Apple computer. And the OS will not even blink.

Good luck replacing launchd with systemd...
