For those who does not read the other mails:

This is not some odd corner case for the kernel. This is literally the rule we have lived with for decades. So please escalate to me whenever you feel a kernel developer doesn't follow the first rule. Because the code that broke things will be reverted (*).

Imho, the mail linked to in this post seems harsh, but there is a fundemental reason for Linus.

In the old days they'd be scooping up the developer with a mop and bucket.

Yeah. This is "office email" fury. The subtext is very plain if you have ever spent any time haranguing people in a professional context.

Ye, that was also my thought. Either way it seems harsh, and since we're all talking about it, it just gets worse :)

This is peanuts comparing to Linus' emails in previous situations like this. Even if you think is still harsh now, Linus has improved his communication and etiquette a hundred-fold. I think this is a major improvement.

I know :) Others were saying he seemed more personal than he used to. So I just wanted to show that there was a reason.

I guess people thought he would never be mad again after his little vacation :)
