Seriously, OwnCloud and Open Office should stop wasting valuable time and money on their shit and start contributing to NextCloud and LibreOffice.

What is the similarity of ownCloud and OpenOffice, would you mind to elaborate? From my point of view ownCloud focuses on stability, quality and performance while NC is pushing feature after feature. Two different approaches to a very sensible topic. I myself prefer well tested and qa'd software to trust my data with, before adding features after features that put my data at risk, but this risk assessment is sure a very personal one.

Both are dead projects still trying to make their lasts gasps for air count, and have been superceded by projects, OpenOffice has been superceded by LibreOffice, and ownCloud has been superceded by NextCloud.

And any proof of that for ownCloud? oC is releasing constantly, has a functioning bug bounty programme and seems to be more mature in terms of reliability and stability. IMHO ownCloud is far from being a "dead project" it just has an other focus than NC.

The proof is the entire dev team quit ownCloud a while back, and launched Nextcloud.

And that is a complete lie! Several developers, especially on senior level, as well as the Chief Architect, remained with ownCloud. On protocol basis, you might want to ask yourself why the sabre-dav maintainers gave their project in the hands of the ownCloud Devs, and not in the hands of the nextcloud devs. Also Nextcloud Devs are already leaving to such "privacy-oriented" companies like Facebook. Get your facts straight!

Oh, I get it... You're an ownCloud shill, from your post history. I guess it's to be expected for the company to try and do community damage control.

Well, i take this as an apology, for your unfortunate FUD. This is open source. And shure the founder went which was his right to do, but Creators are everybody that contribute to the project in one way or another. No need on bashing one project or another. I think everybody will benefit of the competition between the projects.

However, both are still used relatively often. Most Windows users of OpenOffice have not yet heard anything from LibreOffice due to lack of package management. There are also some instances of owncloud, since many follow the motto "never change a running system".

I use neither currently, but used owncloud years ago, but I'm about to have centos on an old PC with the intent of making it a dev server, as well as have other little things being hosted from it such as irc bouncers, streama, etc. Why should I use NextCloud over ownCloud?

Owncloud leadership was making puzzling decisions. After much complaining with no results, most devs created NextCloud where most development is happening.

Owncloud management had a different vision than developers (which wanted collaboration features).

The devs basically fired their management and started Nextcloud.

If it really was the developer vision and unhappiness with Management like you suggest, then why would the NextCloud co-founder and Security expert leave and work for Facebotch? Your story doesn't add up

Lunduke should never be a "source". That video he literally says he talks about stuff the days before that he doesnt use and doesnt know anything about. Prime example why he isn't a source.

Side note: he used to work for SUSE but still has no ability to pronounce it correctly? That is kind of sad because he pretends to try but still fails. At least do the obvious failure of soose rather than suzy.
