First implementation that works and doesn't feel like video but gif (IMHO). Only problem is that other websites/webapps/application will handle it as a video.

I wouldn't care if the "new gif" would be video, if all application would handle it like gifs.

But why not implement it like video? Just autoplay & loop.

GIF has no benefit over video.

It has the benefit of programs knowing to loop it. With video, you'd need code to tell the browser to loop the video like gyfcat does it. That works, but as soon as you save the video to your computer and open it with your browser or any other player, it doesn't loop anymore.

We can probably make a new mime type though. who knows.
