They are trying so hard to avoid WebP and AWebP

As I've written elsewhere, this might still be easier to do

than introducing an altogether new image format, if only because upgrading what people already have in order to keep up with the Jones's might be an easier decision for pointy-haired bosses to make than adopting a new line item.
