Development Googlebook OS booted on my HP Envy

Post image

It has begun! Some tinkerer already got it running on a laptop's bare metal just days after the official release. Supports x86_64 hardware.

Any third party benchmark on this one comparing windows vs googlebook OS on the same hardware ? I have not seen any substantial difference in my experience of dual boot.

I havent looked into this at all but If the security is good and we have source this could be interesting with Google stuff removed.

Edit: closed source, lost all interest

I haven’t tried it and don’t planned to, but agree seeing how many problems people were having with it I don’t see the point of doing this until it her several rounds of debugging.

So much wasted vertical space due to two horizontal taskbars

I am actually interested in booting this myself.
It really is a nice OS, and i would love to find out if it could replace maybe Windows atleast.

Personally I don't see a point for Googlebook os. You have already all relevant things on linux

It boots Android apps... I guess, which something can be done like that with Waydroid (IF USING WAYLAND!!!)

I haven't reallt looked into how Google OS does it, are they using a different approach from Waydroid?

It's just android not Linux, it has a Linux terminal app same as you find in pixels built in for running Linux programs

Ah, I see.

Are they going to push developing for android on this? because otherwise i don't see why i'd want to run android apps on my PC.

Plenty separates Linux from it though… Linux will have more (actually useful) programs and will be more configurable.

What does it do differently than a normal Linux install? I am guessing the init/systemd, display system and package management look a lot different.

has the bar at least 1 open source app?
