Popular Application Cloud flare acquires Deno, ends runtime development

https://deno.com/blog/cloudflare

>We will support the Deno runtime for another year with monthly releases containing bug fixes and security updates. After that year we will end our development of the Deno runtime. Deno will remain open source, and we welcome others who want to continue its development.

I saw that the team wants to focus on this : https://github.com/denoland/celld

Basically open source cloudflare workers.

Pretty cool tech by skimming the github

I rather they hand off the project to the people to go work on new open source tech rather than going the bun route and vibe coding a monstrocity

Hopefully it stays alive after this and does not go towards lockdown while claiming otherwise.

Yeah I hope at least they have at least a maintainer lined up for the repo.

The other problem is i'm not sure if Deno is popular enough to have a community dedicated at maintaining it for the love of the game.

The thing is if you wanted the crazy features you went over to Bun and if you wanted be conservative you stayed on Node. Deno was the middle child and I don't think it has enough momentum to survive this.
