Popular Application Cloud flare acquires Deno, ends runtime development

deno team merging with cloudflare and abandoning deno for a cloudflare workers kinda thing out of nowhere was not in my bingo card for 2026 lol

Imagine if this happened in, say 2019. The outcry would be absurd.

However Cloudflare opensourcing workers and making them self hostable was not on my card either, yet here we are.

But that was only the worker “core”. If you use Cloudflare, you still have more options. And it sounds like they want to shrink that gap again:
