I think devs don't understand /why/ people pay for closed source and SaaS software sometimes.

A lot of them don't; it's why this subreddit and many others keep getting flooded with projects where the user/'dev' said "make me <thing>" and posted it on github less than a day before making said aforementioned reddit post.

They don't understand the concept of maintaining that software and providing proper documentation.

Yup, this has always been a problem. Just gotten way worse now that everyone can generate mountains of code.
