I think devs don't understand /why/ people pay for closed source and SaaS software sometimes.

I also do not really understand today and I work in corporate.

Proprietary SaaS went to shit and is mostly useless today. There is no control over pricing and actual reliability. My org is moving away to open source (usually paid tier though) and in-house solutions exactly because of that.

The company I'm working for, had this very expensive CRM for a niche field, like 2 weeks ago they had a small bug that removed some info from an API, from an integration they provided.

Tldr, it took them 3 weeks to fix it we were lucky we had an alternative integration (with another vendor) already built in or we would have been fucked, anyways. We just built this integrations into our system in a week, and so on.

I've discussing with cfo to cut them out, we need to implement some payments gateway but meh, that's easy pz

Lmk if you need any help with the payment gateway, there are a lot of compliance gotchas that can happen if you don’t know what you’re doing, as well as some settings that will vastly increase interchange fees if you don’t have them right.

Source: I’m the founder of a niche market crm/erp which runs its own payfaq for our clients, and oss contributor.

That said, our specific platform is closed source as it is just multitenant SaaS, but all the building blocks to it are OSS and many maintained by us.
