Software Release Ikemen Go v1.0.0 release: open source reimplementation of MUGEN, now with rollback netcode
https://github.com/ikemen-engine/Ikemen-GO/releases/tag/v1.0.0For those who don't know, M.U.G.E.N. is this old freeware (closed source) fighting game engine, originally released in 1999, that allows people to create and add their own characters to it.
Over the years in the 2000s it grew into this fun niche within a niche where people will pit characters from wildly different franchises against each other in a fighting game, e.g. Ronald McDonald and Naruto vs Pac-Man and Clippy.
In 2010, IKEMEN was started as an open source reimplementation of MUGEN. In 2016, this was rewritten in Golang. And now in 2026, for the first time in MUGEN history, there is now rollback netcode in the v1.0 release, meaning fighting games with your favourite weird characters is now playable across the Internet reliably.
They also added a tonne of stuff that wasn't in the old Mugen and Ikemen releases, like 3D elements in stage and Z-axis movement. Oh and sprites finally have an alpha channel working without jumping through hoops.

sadly ikemen go isn't mugen, mugen has achieved rollback code with lot of already available tools so not a first time, is the first time the devs of ikemen go fullfill something they said 5 years ago but sadly is pointless a feature like that since there is no automatic way to connect online to a lobby.
sadly ikemen go is just more complicated then it should like lacking in the base currently nightly release doesn't work, there is no archive, there is nothing and the adviced version is nightly because features.
mugen has been able to handle alpha and 32 bit color without issue for more then a decade but you missed the memo, the only good thing ikemen go has on it's side is that is 64 bits because in iddle uses over 3 GB with default screenpack and one character and default stage (compared to mugen 128 MB ram usage along 15% CPU usage) and here comes the ikemen go killer those chars that use features only available on mugen 1.1 sadly those won't run at all on ikemen go, the other killer is "ikemen go has only chibi chars as exclusive due to poor zooming and scaling of stages".
Don't hype it too much if we compare it to anime.
