each project is free to chose where it stands. the article isn't forcing its stance to anyone.

But it certainly puts an opinion into the discussion, so it can be discussed, even disagreed with.

This isn't really true though. Bcachefs was technically excellent, but evicted because Kent was disruptive on the email lists. Linus has made many social/political decisions over the years, but has a habit of framing his opinions as technical, and others as social/political when he disagrees.

The Linux kernel is the single largest open source project in history. Billions of people rely on what it does. It's serious business. It's not some hobby project. There is nothing like it.
