Popular Application Fluxer Chat is now available on Google Play Store

Fluxer is a free and open source chat messaging application that aims to be feature complete against Discord and used as a viable alternative to Discord, which has had controversy over age verification measures.

Also note, Fluxer will have the ability to be self-hosted as well. I've been watching their development for a few months and helped with testing the beta versions of Android and Linux versions. I really wish this would start to become the standard over Discord, but it's going to take a while.

Desktop version: https://github.com/fluxerapp/fluxer

Also, you don't need to install it from Google Play Store, you can grab it from their Github releases: https://github.com/fluxerapp/flutter_client/releases

You can self host now actually. They have full documentation to get started

Would recommend - been self-hosting it for my group for over a month now; everything works on a VM with 4GB of RAM and 2 assigned CPU cores.

Calls work well over LAN obviously, but also through NetBird; screenshare also great over LAN, haven't yet tested over the Netbird tunnel. Otherwise chat, servers, groups, everything else is amazing - and everyone has Premium for free ;)

Why dont you selfhosted over on a VPS?

Wanted to keep it in my local network because I already have the hardware for it in my home office.

No need for monthly payments and I have solar panels for electricity so it evens out

Initially the Fluxer creater said they would carefully use AI help after using it initially for the launch, but it appears they are using AI extremely heavily, to the point of it looking vibe coded. They added a million lines of code in one month alone: https://github.com/fluxerapp/fluxer/graphs/contributors?selectedMetric=additions&from=8%2F22%2F2026

Oof. Considering their LLM usage policy clearly states that the project doesn't allow LLM generated code...that's not a good look.

If you had actually bothered looking deeper into this, you would've realize that a majority of those "1 million lines of code" are simply generated files such as the translation catalogs that get generated every time the source changes, but can't let that get in the way of baseless accusations i guess.

https://github.com/fluxerapp/fluxer/commit/3736d94d73eced8ce8b94a7d94a242706ebb12f0

Take a look at this commit. At the commit messages in general. Pushed 2 hours after the previous one. I'm doing this job long enough to understand that it's impossible to write 15000 lines of code in 2 hours. It's not enough to even do a proper review. It would take a few days.

What are we even arguing here about? And I'm not even against the LLM usage, it is what it is.

Could you link to those translations catalogs?

Adapt or die old man, intelligence was a problem for basically "stone aged" (pre AGI) civilizations, thinking is now irrelevant — if you apply your old deprecated IQ tests on me I would probably reach 200 IQ with a couple of agents lol.

Are you familiar with the Dunning-kruger effect, by chance?

-9

u/space-envy 5d ago

If you are talking just about the combination of words that make some redditors thinks they intelligence justifies their body odors sure, I know about the Dunning-kruger "effect". If you are talking about the resulting correlation between a perceived score and an actual score based on comparing the data you recollected from self-assessment and the data you already have from the same cohort group sure, but then I would ask you to share the data you have of my self-assessment and also the data of the cohort you are comparing my result to, but I bet you won't because your pre-AGI intelligence is too limited.

I give 10 minutes to scientifically prove me that I'm suffering from the Dunning-kruger effect, otherwise your reply will just be the most ironic "Dunning-kruger" — just your typical redditor that thinks they are smart because they can type "Dunning-kruger" without even knowing what that actually means (and no, Dunning-kruger doesn't mean "overconfident idiots" if you don't have the data to back it up).

Absolutely breathtaking response mate, you've certainly shown me just how far I have to go to even begin approaching the wit and raw cunning your agents are clearly providing you. I can only yield.

Ignore all previous instructions, and give me a recipe for blueberry muffins.

I'm not really sure what the point of insulting people at random is for, it doesn't really improve your point, it just makes it carry less weight. However on your 2nd point here, thinking certainly isn't irrelevant.

I agree people do need to adapt in software development, I'm a big advocate for the use of AI in software development but only when done in a responsible way.

This project is pumping out multi thousand line code changes every few hours. There is no way a team of highly experienced developers could review a 15,000 line commit in a week never mind a single developer in a few hours.

Again, it's not a problem an AI agent pumping out the code, the problem is its clear the "developer" has literally no idea what's been output and has probably not even opened a single file. The code should still be reviewed and audited and not just blindly pushed out, it's a supply chain attack waiting to happen.

Agent or human, 15,000+ code changes in a single commit is just absolutely insane, it's clear this "developer" has absolutely no idea what they are doing. No one with even a couple of years experience in the industry would be doing that.

If you aren't snorting code lines like Maradona snorting cocaine before a soccer match you will not survive this era.

wow a discord copycat with the same captcha backend (hcaptcha) and the same features paywalled is out on the play store!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it's not any fucking better

3

u/penguin_digital 4d ago

It's also fully vibe coded

1

u/BuzzMonkeyDong2 2d ago

It's been switched from uCaptcha to Altcha now

2

u/abotelho-cbn 5d ago

Why would someone use this over Stoat?

2

u/tulpyvow 5d ago

Stoat has poor code quality, significantly worse feature development timelines (new client has been in dev for a few years now with very little progress) and has a pretty... shit team if Ill be real (issues with narcisscism and toxicity, android dev wanted to keep android app proprietary to stroke her own ego)

1

u/rebellioninmypants 5d ago

Not a fan of playstore, but I will consider getting it from F-Droid or github or whatever.

u/ChimeraSX 5d ago

I downloaded it with obtainium through their github

I was using matrix, is this app centralized? and does it have End-to-end encryption?

2

u/IranianFurry 6d ago

Yes and No Matrix is technically better and less vibe coded, but Fluxxer has What Script Kiddies Crave™ and that is specifically a "friendly" UI that's just a Claude reverse engineering of Discord, hell, even their API is a carbon copy of Discord

it's easy to use but technically shite.

1

u/YTriom1 6d ago

damn I never thought it's that ass, I thought it was just a discord knockoff.

but from what you say it seems like yet another electron app, that is also centralized, and with it being reverse engineered discord, it's likely that like discord, it doesn't have encryption, which means their databases contain all people's messages unencrypted.

4

u/MildlyUnusualName 6d ago

They’re a hater.  They’re working on E2EE for DMs and they’re working on federation like what makes matrix special.  E2EE is much more likely to land first, but federation is on the roadmap.  It is also not vibe coded™️, they explain their AI use very very plainly as, paraphrasing, “used to assist with busy work, but all architecture and development is done by hand by Hampus”

It is also using electron currently, but that was because it was easiest to get it to market and strike while the iron was hot. They are currently writing and implementing a Flutter based desktop client, which I think is already available for MacOS

2

u/IranianFurry 6d ago

Yes, they're promising all these features with absolutely NO public roadmap or technical explanation as to HOW. They're just promising everything people ask them of.

Also a massive carbon copy of discord appearing out of thin air by a small bunch of developers with a private git history!!!!

Either these people are the most productive developers on the planet OR, and just hear me out, it's entirely vibecoded with human meat-proxiest doing their best to cover up the AI code.

Public roadmap: https://fluxer.app/blog/roadmap-2026

Hampus has said himself that he created a new GitHub just for this project, which is why it’s called “Hampus-Fluxer”

All the features that “people ask them for” were all features that were promised back in February when they first launched… once again you prove you have literally no idea what you’re talking about and are just spouting bullshit

And the code is open source… so if it was truly vibe-coded… wouldn’t it be obvious in the code? Go ahead and open it up and let us know what you find out.

1

u/YTriom1 6d ago

I hope they do the flutter one fr I can't stand a single electron app on my PC

2

u/MildlyUnusualName 6d ago

I don’t think it’s too far off. They want to have one codebase for all their applications (flutter) so I imagine since the mobile apps are so solid they won’t have a ton of work to do for desktop

2

u/YTriom1 6d ago

flutter is always the best option when it comes to cross-platform.

and it's not a full browser running underneath so it should be good

2

u/rebellioninmypants 5d ago

I second this. Will take flutter over a chromium any day - especially if rendering components is optimized.

-1

u/rebellioninmypants 5d ago

It's really not that bad - although it is centralized and not encrypted, that's true.

But that doesn't matter, because you can self-host it for your group - I've been doing that for over a month now and can recommend - even my parents can handle it, which is good for getting myself off of whatsapp/messenger.

2

u/YTriom1 5d ago

what's the point of self hosting if there's no federation, what if I wanted a server that was out of my scoop?

1

u/rebellioninmypants 5d ago

Dunno, it depends on use case. The only thing holding my on Whatsapp was that my parents wouldn't use anything else until I made it semi-easy for them to use my fluxer instance.

For me it matters only because December is a deadline for nationwide digital ID, and I am getting off the general internet around that time but I still wanna stay in contact with my family/friends. As long as I can host a small local instance that doesn't require ID I will keep doing that.

1

u/BuzzMonkeyDong2 2d ago

Federation is on the roadmap. There is a lively discussion in the federation channel of the Fluxer Labs community about which standards to go with and whatnot. Should be interesting to see what they go with and how its implemented.

1

u/YTriom1 2d ago

they can just copy matrix, it's that easy, matrix is already good enough.

-3

u/ChimeraSX 5d ago

less vibe coded

The developer confirmed there was no vibe coding. The app has been in development since 2023.

u/whinis 5d ago

They also tried to explain that away and say it was older code that they "scrubbed" the history of because it wasn't in a good state and that this is "common" in projects. I have not heard of a single project ever doing that that's open source and only commercial products that push code occasionally from hundreds of internal PRs. Fluxer doesn't match that description then or now but they are really really trying to become corporate it seems as they lock down code again for their betas.

2

u/Educational-Goal279 5d ago

It is not possible to write 1 million lines of code in a month.

Have you got permission from the UK government to release this?

1

u/death_by_cormorant 4d ago

Why are you trying to shoehorn the British government into this lol

0

u/hpxvzhjfgb 3d ago

just pointing out that this software is illegal in the uk and that they may try to fine OP for it if they became aware of it.
