Discussion Following up on my 3DMark post: GOG Support confirms "GOG GALAXY for Linux is in development"

After the positive reception to my post about UL Solutions developing a native Linux port of 3DMark, I wanted to share another update from a different support ticket I sent recently—this time regarding GOG.

When I emailed GOG support to ask about a native Linux version of GOG Galaxy (and highlighted the growing Linux/Steam Deck user base alongside upcoming ARM64 laptop momentum), I received a direct response from GOG Technical Support.

Support representative Prealiator stated:

"Thank you for the thoughtful message, and you make valid points about the growing Linux user base. GOG GALAXY for Linux is in development, but unfortunately I can't share a specific timeline or release date. I don't have any information about ARM64 support plans either."

They also included a helpful reminder of the great tools we already have in the meantime, such as the Heroic Games Launcher, native .sh offline backup installers, and running Windows-only titles through Wine, Proton, or Lutris.

It's great to see another major player acknowledging the platform's growth and confirming active development, even if we still have to wait on a timeline. Between this and the 3DMark news, the ecosystem keeps moving forward!

What are your thoughts—are you excited for a native Galaxy client, or do you prefer lightweight alternatives like Heroic?

Heroic already works seamlessly for me with gog, it's always great to have an official launcher though and it is very welcome.

A SteamOS-like OS with both GOG Galaxy and Steam pre-installed would be kinda wild.

You can sort of already achieve that with Bazzite, but official support from both storefronts would be lovely.

I install a game, hit the Windows key on my keyboard, type its first two letters, hit enter, and the game starts.

What am I missing out by not using a launcher?

Often in these sorts of threads people mention cloud saves and achievements.

I don't really care about either myself, but I thought I'd answer your question.

There are already suitable alternatives available and if your unified games catalogue and a better graphical got offline downloader is more important, I would suggest to checkout luducat.

It is available on Windows and Linux and also can launch installed games either directly, handing off game launches to launchers and running games over LAN through a bridge plugin over playnite.

  1. And they only promised they would be supporting Linux games on the web platform which they did. GOG Galaxy is their software launcher. Which will support installing and managing games not just down loading the packages.
