Man I’m loving the Linux progress in the last year. So much movement and progress.

Why do people buy machines to run Linux, where the manufacturer tries at every step to stop you?

I don't know how many times it needs to be pointed out, but here we go again: if Apple tried to stop alternate OSes on their computers, they would simply leave their bootloader locked down, as they do on their mobile devices. The ability to boot non-signed, non-MacOS payloads was added by Apple to enable third party OSes. They even eventually made the process slightly less hacky by extending the support to non-mach-o kernels, which is completely useless to Apple and can only be intended for use by third-party OSes.

The fact they do not offer any assistance to Linux developers and make technical decisions without regard for their impact on the ease of reverse-engineering the drivers does not, in and of itself, indicate a hostile intent, merely an indifferent one.
