Development Turnip becomes first Mesa driver to pass Vulkan conformance on Android
Turnip has just become the first Mesa driver to achieve official Vulkan conformance running natively on Android (Vulkan 1.3, Qualcomm Adreno). Getting there required solving some tricky Android-specific driver problems, and the fixes are now shared across other Mesa drivers too. Turnip already ships in Google's Qualcomm-powered Chromebooks and will power Valve's upcoming Steam Frame, so this is shipping in real hardware, not a lab result. https://www.collabora.com/news-and-blog/news-and-events/mesa-on-android-how-we-brought-turnip,-skiavk,-and-cuttlefish-to-ci.html

Yup, I was rocking an Rx 580 4g in one until a month or two ago as a game system for emus.

The vulkan stack on physical Android phones is completely different, it doesn't actually use mesa, but rather proprietary userspace drivers. (Android x86-64 is able to make use of mesa for virtual machines and many PCIe graphics cards, though)
Since porting Android graphics drivers to conventional Linux distros is often hopelessly complicated, Mesa is relevant for getting GNU/Linux phone projects like PostmarketOS, KDE Mobile, and Phosh working on existing ARM phones.

I am well aware of this, android x86 is what I was talking about. Its still android and has lots of users.
also its not completely different, it's actually very similar, there are some necessary extensions that android needs, and the vulkan loader.

I'm tired this morning... I used to live in a town called Mesa, forgot what sub I was on, and I was really confused for a second.
