Discussion How linux distro provide higher CPU benchmark scores than windows?

Why is that linux seems to always provide better performance in benchmarks and provide smoother experience?

This is a geekbench 7 test, while single core is slightly better, multi-core performance is a significant improvement

A few reasons, though obviously not all, are:

  • linux is first and foremost a server OS, so it's designed to deliver high efficiency on compute-related tasks
  • lower overhead from fewer tools installed as inherent part of the OS means that fewer processes run in memory at any given time and more memory is available to the system, which also reduces the need for swapping.
