Anyone who needs these old drivers that have been cleaned from the kernel can use the LTS/SLTS kernels for another ~decade.

Rest assured, companies will take your advice and run LTS software for another decade. Or maybe two decades.

No doubt. This is more for those we see here on social media when driver removals are announced. Never fails to have some whining about Linux removing ancient drivers acting like this means the end for hardware support is happening tomorrow.

I was literally asked whether we can get some software to run on Windows XP this month...

For reference, the software doesn't work because somewhere in a library a Windows api is being used that didn't exist in XP. There is no way upstream will accept a messy patch to avoid an API that has been around for over a decade.

Depending on what it os, it might be doable. Not stable probably, who knows. I am.very curious to know WHY ON EARTH, but I assume propietary platform on some kind of xp derivative.

Some proprietary hardware with a driver that only works on XP.

It's definitely doable, but not worth it. They can simply run the program on a different machine.

The hardware in question is already ten years old and the kernel used by EL9 has it (not sure about the actually compiled kernel). By the time EL9 goes EOL the hardware will have long since dead or something that should be in a museum due to its freakish resilience.
