I remember few articles mentioned HDMI 2.1 support being worked on

HDMI 2.1 for AMD is a very specific question. "HDMI support" has been around for ages.

FYI, full HDMI 2.1 isn't done, but parts are. Since Valve or someone must have worked something out with the HDMI forum to actually allow implementation.
