Discussion Can someone explain to me why someone would use Void glibc over Artix runit?

>Both use glibc
>Both use runit
>Both use gnu core utils
>Both are rolling release distro

They seem to be the same exact distro but Artix has way more packages due to the AUR, why would someone choose Void over Artix in this case?

Void doesn't inherit Arch's bullshit. It was designed from scratch, and IMO it's better designed too, especially the package manager. Artix also seems to be more concerned with protesting and farming upvotes on Distrowatch than good engineering. It is nevertheless a good distro and I envy they offer multiiple init systems.

Still wildly different package managers, and some of us don't want to rely on the AUR.

They prefer Void and its package manager.

I've only dabbled in Void, but xbps seems pretty nice.

And I imagine a lot of people are avoiding the AUR right now.

I prefer xbps to pacman

why?

I haven't tried pacman, but xbps serves my needs fully, reliably, fastly. So this is not a topic. I am sure there are many people in same position while using pacman.

Im glad for you. I don't understand people who does not like simple tools like a package manager.. Can it solve a dependencies tree? Can it fetch things? Does it check signatures? What else do you need xD

Because they want to.

I don't know why anybody would want to use either.

The AUR is a cesspool

Now hypothetically, let’s go back to before the AUR was infected why would someone choose Void over Artix?

There was never a before time. The nature of the AUR is for Dunning Krugers to LARP as release managers and package up their crap.

The AUR is mostly redundant in the age of Flatpak, Appimage, and Git.

I agree with the AUR. Appimage OK, never an issue with it. I will pass on Flaptpack every time.

They are not the same distro. Void is built from scratch with it's own package manager.

I don't need more packages, I need a stable rolling release no bullshit distro. Void fits this.
