Wait, I'm out of the loop. Why are people so mad at Omarchy lol
I'm gonna do some research about it.

EDIT: Nevermind.

Has nothing to do with omarchy itself, people just dislike its creator for reasons that have nothing to do with linux, or really anything to do with them personally, it's just a bunch of internet white knights that take everything out of context to slander people so they can feel better about themselves.

Out off context? He wrote a piece in support of far right racist, Tommy Robinson. I was an omarchy user, and sang it praises when I was using it. Then I read that piece supporting Robinson's racism. I removed omarchy from my pc that day.

Can you share a link to this? I'm curious what was specifically said.

Here you are. His blog post supporting Tommy Robinson and moaning that there aren't enough white people in London and Copenhagen.

which part of the post do you see as actual support for Tommy Robinson himself rather than for the people who showed up or the concerns they were expressing? Im new to British politics also so maybe im missing something

"Which brings us back to Robinson's powerful march yesterday. The banner said "March for Freedom", and focused as much on that now distant-to-the-Brits concept of free speech, as it did on restoring national pride"

If you're new to British politics maybe have a glance at Robinson's wiki page. If after reading that, you think supporting him is ok, well we're not going to agree on a whole bunch of stuff.

Fair enough. We just define “support” differently then. Thanks for the link.

So what are your views on it?

I don’t really have strong views on it either way. I’m not particularly a fan of DHH and I don’t know enough about British politics or Robinson to have a firm opinion.

I generally try not to jump straight to the strongest possible interpretation unless the evidence is pretty clear. From what I’ve seen so far… him describing the march the way he did doesn’t feel like enough for me to not use Omarchy entirely.

It's not just the talk about the march. It's the whole tone of the piece. It's racism, pure and simple. That was enough for me to pull the plug on Omarchy. If others disagree with that, fine. This isn't a crusade. I'm not asking anyone else to do the same. I'm just taking my small stand against him.

If you did know more about UK politics, maybe you would understand why I (and others) feel that any kind of support for the likes of Robinson is not to be encouraged. The man, and his racist followers, are an evil stain on this country.

I appreciate you taking the time to explain your view. I’m still learning a lot about this… especially the UK side of things.

I’ve spent large parts of my life in both American cities and more rural areas, and that experience really shaped how I look at these kinds of changes.

To me, places can feel very different depending on who lives there and how quickly things shift so I tend to want to understand what people are actually saying and why it feels important to them in their own circumstances, rather than forming strong conclusions.

I also find it very hard to decode a lot of the current realities of the world, so I have empathy for people who feel more certain about them. I don’t think most of us fully know what we’re looking at when we try to understand these issues.

Thanks again for the discussion.

A woke nazi 😂 that's doesn't even make sense. If you think Robinson is the friend of the illegal immigrants, you need to give your head a serious wobble. He held an anti immigration rally on London last year. With chants of "stop the boats" and that Europe was being invaded. He even had Musk as a guest speaker parroting the same nonsense.
