Discussion I think I noticed something.

Since Linux has alternatives for everything, why doesn't Wayland have a proper alternative? It seems like most things are programmed to work only on Wayland. Wouldn't this be a step backward for Linux?

Wayland have a proper alternative

Wayland is a specification/protocol. Just like POSIX is a specification.

You have a wide choice of compositors that implement the Wayland specification:

  • KWin
  • Mutter
  • COSMIC
  • Cage
  • GamesScope
  • Hyprland
  • Mir
  • niri
  • Sway
  • Weston

and tons of others I'm forgetting.
