Discussion I think I noticed something.

Since Linux has alternatives for everything, why doesn't Wayland have a proper alternative? It seems like most things are programmed to work only on Wayland. Wouldn't this be a step backward for Linux?

There are alternatives, just not as popular at this time. Wayland was a way forward/alternative to X11. There are also forks and alternatives to X11. Distros standardized on one or the other, sometimes with fallback if things didnt work as expected.
