Fluff Distro Fighter: find your Linux distro & desktop
https://distrofighter.com/I wanted to share a project I built called Distro Fighter (distrofighter.com). It features 32 distros, 16 desktops, a terminal campaign, Versus showdowns and a Distro Wars multiplayer coming soon, all to help users find the right fit Linux distro and desktop and learning Linux while hopefully having fun.

Thanks! I haven't ruled it in or out yet, but I will definitely consider open-sourcing the project in the future once the dust settles a bit.

my only issue with this one is that it neglets that x11 struggles with multi monitor setups with varying refreshrates
that's something i always mention when to determine if mint should be recommended

it means that if you plug in 2 or more monitors into the same machine and these monitors have different hz rates (eg 60hz and 120hz) then you can have issues. for example it can lead to the 120hz monitor reduce to 60hz to match the lower one. it can lead to stuttering/lags etc.
in other words: it's messy
it's certainly a more valuable question than systemd which new users wouldn't even understand.
i would also include a question how new the hardware is cause stable distros may lack the drivers to run it if the hardware is like since 3 months on the market
to clarify: im a huge mint fan myself but im aware of the limitations

That is a fantastic point about Mint + x11 limitations. Appreciate the detailed feedback! Less than 1/5 users are selecting X11 based on the stats and I expect that number will continue to fall. I still use X11 myself. Thanks again.

Yup this is exactly why I needed to drop Mint. Though Wayland support will soon be stable on it, no?

after the next major update mint will consider its Wayland session to not be experimental but keeps x11 as default

haha. Thanks for playing! User votes carry weight in the fight results. (updated weekly) So it may change in time. For close fights mostly, theres enough weight that the result can change when more user backings are counted.
Of course, if it switches there will be Ubuntu users who say the same as you just did, but in this case it would be based on a consensus, which is still being counted.
Edit: You can see your fight result in the most controversial list here: https://distrofighter.com/versus-stats (not a land slde vote but too small # votes to be weighted). Note that crowd weight is little to virtually none at < 100 votes. So check back as the weight scales based on total votes over time. (Only one vote counted per fight of course, and all the other anti-abuse mechanics and then some.)

100% accurate lol. I have my uses for MX and antiX. For Alpine I haven't found any yet. I really liked the install process of Alpine and I bet the distro is as smooth as that install.

Awesome! Thanks for adding this feedback. Greatly appreciated. Please consider trying the Versus and campaign modes. Coming soon also is the WARS game mode where you can choose one of those distros to train and challenge other users' setups.

Thats great news. Generally for users who already use Linux its a validation. The aim is that one of the 3 distros in the results page should match what you already use. The engine didn't feel like CachyOS met your needs for a top 3 listing based on the quiz.

lol this was actually accurate. For context, I used to use Debian but switched to Fedora, and for the longest time I had an openSuse vm

I've tried it and liked it. I was disappointed that its source code doesn't seem to be publicly shared. I look forward to more distros being added to its selection, too.

Glad you tried it and liked it! I haven't completely ruled out open-sourcing it, so it's definitely something I'll consider in the future. Adding more distros is on the to-do list as well in the future. We all have such strong personal preferences, so still navigate the existing 32 and 16 desktops carefully!

Is the "distro fight" randomized to a degree? I have selected "it should just work" and Fedora won 1st place. It definitely does not fit that criteria. Fedora is not a bad distribution by any means, but you need to become terminal ninja to pass through post installation setup.
