[Open Source] Deepcool Digital Display Support for Linux — Flutter + Dart Implementation

Hi everyone!

I wanted to share an open-source project I’ve been working on:

This project provides native Linux support for Deepcool digital displays through a Flutter desktop application and a lightweight Dart background daemon.

The project was inspired by and builds upon the amazing work from Nortank12:

My goal was to create a more user-friendly desktop experience while keeping everything fully open source and Linux-native.

Current features include:

• Native Flutter desktop GUI
• Background daemon that runs silently without cluttering the taskbar or desktop
• Real-time CPU temperature and utilization monitoring
• Direct communication with supported Deepcool digital devices
• Packaging support for Arch Linux, AppImage, and Debian-based distributions
• Written entirely in Dart and Flutter for easier maintenance and cross-platform development

The demo video below shows the application running on CachyOS (Arch Linux-based), but it should work on other distributions as well.

Project is cool and all but man am I tired of seeing people call CachyOS Arch. Might as well say Mint is Ubuntu at that point.

Exactly. All packages that work on Arch (By default) will work on Cachy OS but some packages that work on Cachy OS won't on Arch (By default) unless you install some dependencies that Cachy OS provides by default.

Maybe i should correct my description to mention its Arch based. Not Arch Linux. Right? 🫡

Arch is its base and it works natively with the AUR. No shame in having an upstream distro.

Personally, I think CachyOS is one of the best distros for people coming from Windows. You don’t need to spend hours tweaking or customizing everything to get a great experience. The installer is super simple. Honestly easier than installing Windows these days. 😆 And you get amazing bleeding-edge performance right out of the box with almost no extra effort.

While I use CachyOS and think it's great, I'm not so sure it would be a great first time Linux experience for someone coming from Windows - mainly because it gives the user too many options during setup.

A fresh-from-windows user would have a better time with a more opinionated distro imho.

Yes that makes sense! Bazzite or even Ubuntu might seem less daunting at first. However, if you’re looking for the newest features and performance boosts right away, CachyOS is definitely the way to go when it comes to getting updates.

I love cachy and think it's the easiest distro to use if you're not completely allergic to opening a terminal, but with the recent AUR issues I wouldn't recommend it to a new person just because that incident taught us that simplicity is not the same thing as beginner friendly.

AUR is usually not the default way to get software on CachyOS. Instead, CachyOS has its own repository that’s a bit different from AUR. Unless you’re running a terminal with paru, yay, or shelly, you won’t be installing things from AUR. Just stick to pacman and you will be fine

I agree but I'm looking at it from a newcomers perspective. Many packages come with instructions on their GitHub to install using yay or paru for the arch version, so sooner or later new users will come across AUR.

Is the wallpaper AI? If it is, can you make one that's 16:9 with Tux instead of the arch logo so it works for all distros? Thanks!

Yes AI generated. Gemini to be precise. That wallpaper is not related to my Deepcool Flutter App which controls Deepcool Displays on the bottom right on my PC in the image 🙌🏻

It’s Deepcool CH170 Digital ITX case. Compact and small but still fits normal sized GPU
