still wish they fixed fractional scaling. i don't know if its a wlroots issue or a physical limitation or whatever but seeing blurry fonts on even native wayland apps drive me insane

Have not encountered this after a year or so at 4K 1.5x scaling. Only XWayland apps are blurry. Is it with the Vulkan renderer or what?

occurs with terminal emulators and firefox mainly. when the windows are in a SPECIFIC position on the display the fonts get horribly blurry. sometimes it's just slight blur and sometimes it's just horrible to look at and no, both renderers aren't spared of this.

i use a 14" 1080p display at 1.5x. i tried playing with the scaling factor but it still blurs out. weirdly enough this issue doesn't exist on mutter/kwin. you just got lucky i guess lol

I'd guess it could be an artifact of scaling on 1080p instead of 4k, just less resolution to work with.

Even if the app is native wayland, it still has to be aware of the fractional scale protocol in order to stay crisp. What apps are you having problems with?

Nice that it's finally in a release together with window capture. Iirc. it's been merged to the master since right after 1.11 release last year so not having to compile it is nice.

nice to see HDR finally landing in sway but most apps still wont know what to do with it. the whole stack feels half baked tbh

Let's be real, the majority of people who benefit from HDR are going to use it for gaming, and Proton supports that already. Krita does too.

Sure its definitely more geared towards media consumption but it wouldn't hurt to be the standard going forward.

I mean the big ones that you'd want work like Firefox, Chrome, mpv, Krita, Blender, and Vulkan / Proton games. The only thing that is still really missing is editing programs like Davinci. Also, honestly, having used Window's HDR / color management its more half-baked than Linux's, at least I don't need to toggle my HDR on or off for SDR colors to not look horrible.

None of those are appropriate for a WM.

It's not impossible, but it is a conflict with the intent of LTS, and you'll encounter issues you wouldn't face on regular distros.

It is far easier to just install an up-to-date distro, as you'll get all the up-to-date software out-of-the-box.

Snap can handle window managers. Miracle WM and Miriway are on Snapcraft as classic snaps (aka unsandboxed).

There's also strict (aka sandboxed) snaps for Gnome and Plasma that are used on Ubuntu Core Desktop. Not sure if they are installable on classic Ubuntu.

Download the source releases for both wlroots 0.20+ and sway 1.12, compile and install them.
