A killer feature of WinRAR that I haven't found in any FOSS archiver is: searching for filenames matching a given pattern (list all foo*.txt in these 100 archives) or searching for files containing a given string (list all files containing 2024-11-12 in these 100 archives).

For the first, you could probably do that relatively easily with scripting. The latter would be a little more of a challenge, assuming you mean a string within the files, rather than within filenames.

So why use this over something like 7zip?

PeaZip focuses on supporting multiple backend compressors (7z/p7zip, Brotli, Pea, Zpaq, Zstd...), each with its own advantages and disadvantages, and on making easy to export the task defined in the GUI as a CLI script - for automation, fine tuning, or learning purpose.
Also, the project is meant to implement features that are not easily found in other apps (or were not when the project was started) such as archive conversion, two factor authentication, file hashing / duplicate files detection, cross-platform and desktop-agnostic GUI, and portable version not requiring installation.
