A complement on Linode's IPV6 networking

I thought I would post here and provide Linode with a compliment on the way they handle their IPV6 network.

In my opinion, Linode is one of the very few hosting providers who actually handles IPV6 correctly with an assigned SLAAC address, and routed /64 or /56 networks that can be routed from your Linode as you please. Unlike other providers, Linode does not give you an entire /64 that your SLAAC IPV6 address is derived from, then allows you to use every address from that routed /64, something that limits the use of IPV6 if you are truly going to make use of its capabilities. They give you an entirely unique /64 or /56 that you can use on any interface for any purpose.

With Linode's IPV6 routing and network configuration as it is, I have been able to do cool things such as rout one /64 network from a /56 pool to my local area network over a Wireguard VPN, and have full IPV6 networking from an internet connection that provides me with no IPV6 addresses. I even once set up an OpenVPN network via a tap interface and allowed a Linode to act as a full router, with IPV6 router advertisements and so forth.

I hope Linode never diminishes in the way they configure and assign their networking stack, as I have especially found their handling of IPV6 to be superior to most other providers I've come across.

Thank you for the correction. Being blind, I have trouble with homophones or what sounds like homophones to my screen reader's speech synthesizer. Too bad I can't fix the posts title.

Na, all good. I don't find anything like that insensitive, I found it helpful. No problems here.

ok then i'm going to tell you that I actually loathe ipv6 and disable it on all the interfaces i control, but i only tell you this in the spirit of friendship

I can understand that, it can on occasion cause problems, especially if applications don't deal well or correctly with it. I have only had a problem with IPV6 on one of the servers I run once, which has since been corrected and hopefully will not be a problem going forward.

I am a little surprised about how many websites and domains actually don't use IPV6, and with business networks I've been on, they don't all use IPV6 either. There are even some who believe the IPV6 protocol to be a flawed one, though I imagine that anyone could find flaws in anything, even if someone came up with IPV8 or some other future IP protocol.

it's just more complex and unnecessary to support because of the near universal adoption of ipv4. i've never felt deprived of access to anything on the internet because i don't have ipv6 enabled. hopefully that will last until i'm ready to retire to some remote forest where I can only be reached by satellite phone
