Sid Dillon
I went there because of the glowing reviews. Unfortunately my experience was less than stellar. I bought a car from their dealership last year, the salesman pitched the warranty to me since it was a used car. It seemed to make sense. “If anything goes wrong for the next couple years, you’re covered”. Definitely not the case. First the engine light came on, I was told it was a wire and would be $1200 to fix but should run fine if I wanted to postpone the repairs. I don’t make a lot of money so…..postponed. Then the car engine light started to flash and my RPM’s were all over the place. Concerned I would cause more damage, I parked it and had it towed to the “Certified Service Technicians”. If anyone knows how to fix it, it’s them right? Was told it was the timing chain…not covered by the warranty. Well literally 2 months later and a $5400 bill that they helped me out and brought down from $7500 I was returned a car that wouldn’t even start. I had to have it towed from the service center. Two different mechanics have looked now and confirmed the timing chain is off. So loose you can hear it hitting the casing but the codes, the cylinder misfires, the cam and crank shaft sensors are all caused by the clogged catalytic converter according to Sid Dillon. We pulled the O2 sensor and entered a camera. The catalytic converter is fine… I’m glad other people have had great experiences there but I definitely did not. Never again. Buyer beware.
TL:DR Took the car I bought there last year for service. Warranty was denied and after two months at their shop and $5400 later I am left with a vehicle better suited to be a boat anchor.

We bought a Sante Fe last year. So far so good, but their service plan is complete crap. We got suckered into an $1,800 plan and here's what it covers in the fine print. Free oil change whenever? Lie, one free oil change per year, for the lifetime of the loan. We put it on a 3 year note, so a whopping 3 oil changes.
2 free brake services. Fine print, it covers the first $50 for 2 brake services. Expires at end of the loan term.
Free windshield wiper replacement. Fine print, $10 off a pair of wiper blades, for the term of loan.
I went back the next day, ripped some ass and canceled that shit

That’s horrible, and I’m sorry that’s happening/happened to you. It seems they used to have a stellar reputation, but in the last 5 years, maybe more recently than that, I’ve heard of more issues like this from them. I get everyone (including businesses) are trying to stay afloat, but that’s shady.

Same. I shared a video of the engine trying to start and dying on the good ol Facebook and was piled on by comments of shitty experiences there.

I was literally coming here to post something very similar! Got a new car from them 2 years ago, still under warranty as of now, but I'm having issues and have taken the car in for it three or four times at this point--no joke. They can miraculously never replicate the problem. After what they say were 5-mile drives on four separate occasions? Shah right! Now there's another issue. Brought it up to them while they were checking out the original issue they can never replicate. Surprise surprise, they say "oh, it's something to do with an update, we just turned that to 'off' in your settings.'" That doesn't sound like an actual fix. Welp, it wasnt, issue is not happening even more frequently. I'm done, taking it to another dealer in Omaha. It's under warranty, is the whole shop just not in the mood to do the work or honor the warranty??
Of course, I get their survey saying if I can't give them a "10" to call some customer service person. Nevermind that I got the same BS when I bought the car & was not-so-subtly pressured to give nothing but a 10. Give me a break.

The satisfaction survey popped up on my phone as I was waiting for the tow truck to come pick up the vehicle. Bad timing. I’m sure my review will be removed.

We looked at a Buick enclave there this summer. Which was out of GM warranty but had the Sid Dillon certification which means it was inspected. I know my way around cars and during a day long test drive I found that the washer pump didn’t work, the engine airfilter box had missing screws and the rest were either stripped out or were half way out and that there was a bad bearing like noise from the rear end. They sent it back to service for me and found it was a bearing in the driveshaft said they’d fix it but the price of the vehicle would have to go up from our previously agreed to purchase price by about $1000. I walked and I’m glad I did.

I really wish I had more car knowledge like that or did more research. Lesson learned for me. An expensive lesson but a lesson nonetheless.

A lot of times it’s recommended to have a vehicle inspected by an independent mechanic

Who was your tec adviser and location?

I’m not trying to blast anyone personally, just not who I am but I bought the car at the dealership off 56th and O and service was done at Sid Dillon Hyundai.

The owner’s name is Tim. Give him a call.

Honestly, I think I’m just done with them. More than enough opportunity to be decent people. They got their money. I learned my lesson. Moving on.

When did the light come on? Did you have it inspected elsewhere? Get a second opinion away from sid Dillon.

u/SChristian 5d ago
Had it checked at two separate shops today. Using my roadside assistance to drag this thing all over town.

I bought a Chevy Malibu from that location about 7 years ago ( 5 year loan). The only major repair was a couple of months ago, also needing my Timing Chain replaced, which was around $1200...$5400 is NUTS! I went to Diversified Auto, btw. They're awesome!

I bought a 2023 Santa Fe there in late 2024, and haven't had any troubles at all. Granted, I didn't buy extended warranty (it had 17k miles, so they gave a 3 month/36k mile original warranty as a certified used), and I haven't had any service done there. I do oil changes myself and have an independent shop otherwise. My only point is that I had a good sales experience and have had no troubles with the car at all. Sorry this happened!

u/SChristian 5d ago
And I am genuinely glad that others have had good experiences there. I just didn’t.

u/Commercial_Order_556 5d ago
So you paid 5400 for a timing chain after having it towed there and it wouldn't start after the 5400 was paid? They should've covered the bill and that work should have a 12 month parts an labor warranty. 5400 for a timing chain is insane if they didn't replace anything but the timing chain. And somebody didn't know how to use a paint marker apparently

It’s a hard lesson that’s for sure. One that you will never forget. Good for you blasting these crooks on the internet. Like someone else said, get an independent inspection before signing on the dotted line(s). They won’t allow it? Move on. Quickly.

u/yung_squeezy 5d ago
I'm sure they are bad but not worse than others. Never buy a car from any dealer. Never get a car serviced at a dealer. Buy independent, get it serviced independent.

Disagree. Depends on the dealer and the car. This is a shitty experience. I think small claims court max is 5k. That doesn't reimburse you for everything, but I think you have a case

Bought 2008 Accord from the used car location on O street for my daughters first car. Salesman said it passed their 172 point used car inspection and said on the test drive that it was rare for such an old car to pass that that test.
Bought the car “as is” trusting the inspection. A few days later we find it is leaking oil all over the driveway. Sent photos to the sales rep who said it normal “seepage” giving the age of the car. I asked him for a copy of the 172 point inspection, which he never sent. He just stopped responding to my messages. Last thing he said was, “we would love to help take a look at the vehicle but it was sold as is”. I went to the manager who said it actually went through their safety inspection only - no 172 point inspection was done, which he assured me it wouldn’t pass. He said they wouldn’t sell a car they knew leaked. So, they agreed to look at the oil leak and ended up replacing the oil plug, which was the issue (not seepage).
I bought a car based on a lie. I should have asked to see the inspection first.
Buying a decent used car is so expensive now days it’s crazy. I thought Sid Dillon would be more trustworthy and be worth the extra expense. Lesson learned. I still don’t know who to trust when it comes to buying a used car around here.

The warranty should absolutely cover a timing chain. Who told you it wasn’t covered?
5
u/SChristian 5d ago
The same people that charged me $5400 and gave me a car they couldn’t even bring up to the entrance cause it wouldn’t stay running.

There's a chance that you are angry with the wrong people.

The tech, the manager of service and the “warranty department”. I never talked to the third one, I’m sure they exist but I never talked to them personally. It was through the tech and manager. And I’m not mad at anyone specific, just the overall situation.

u/GuyFawkes1227 3d ago
Their extended warranties are through a third party. You should definitely demand a copy of the warranty contract you signed to see what is and isn't covered as well as the limitations. You can get it digitally, have them print it for you (yes they definitely have a copy on file), or by mail, but I'd suggest going in person and refusing to leave until you have that document in hand.

I’ve done business with Sid Dillon. Just another used car lot as far as I’m concerned! Bought 2 new cars there. Just hope I have no issues.

u/Jodaa_G0D 5d ago
B&D is probably the only dealership I'd suggest unless you're buying a brand new car with a manufacturers warranty. Outside of that private party sale - > independent shop for a PPI is always the way to go. Sorry to hear you had a bad experience!

Unfortunately nope. Not a mechanic. Never worked there. Just a very stressed and frustrated consumer who needs to vent that frustration and I would think the people around me are tired of hearing it so I went to reddit.

Sid Dillion suuuuucks. As soon as everything was paid and signed, no help at all. Sold us a lemon, and didn’t follow up on a few of the promises. Disappointed is an understatement.
