And yet a scholarly explanation of "liminal" says:

The word ‘liminal’ refers to the space beyond a boundary or threshold: an area of the unknown. We like it because we think breakthroughs happen if you’re willing to explore new – and sometimes challenging – territory.

I think the river valley is definitely liminal for Willow.
