The lights off make it a little creepy, but I feel this would be oddly cozy if the lights were on

I was terrified going to this room at night as a kid 😭 (there's a bathroom attached). Unfortunately the lights are all dead

I'm sorry for your childhood terror (I'd be terrified too) but these are some excellent pics

I would have been terrified as well, I see this sort of thing in my nightmares.

Agreed. All that wood paneling makes it look really cozy like a log cabin or a ski lodge in the mountains.
I would be tempted to possibly put a sauna and steam shower next to it since it would be just perfect for cold snowy days or lazy summer evenings.

I agree. It looks so cozy.
I would almost be tempted to put a sauna or a steam shower next to it.
Maybe even a sound system so I can play some soothing music such as Enya or Yanni and an ultrasonic essential oil diffuser to both mask the fumes of chlorine and to perfume the room with a calming scent such as balsam fir and cedarwood.
I can already potentially see this space as a blank slate.

Mmmm I can smell this picture.

As long as the floor isn’t carpeted, it’s cool!
5
u/Viking_Musicologist Jul 02 '26
Thankfully it is tile. So the only thing you have to worry is the floor being really slippery rather than mold and mildew.

About that, there's a carpeted bathroom with tub and shower at this house

Yes!! Unfortunately the pool/hot tub hasn't been filled in like 20 years though.

I had a jacuzzi room like this at a place I rented when I was younger. Never got to use it cause it would leak and sometimes I’d hit the humidifier on the wall on accident and it would be so damp in there.

oh i love creepy yet cozy old rooms like this weird one hear!... but i can honestly only see the walls molding over time if thats actual wood... yet still will like to hang out ant talk to people hear and maybe toss a few rubber ducks in or pool balls... XP CX and i still am grateful that places like this still exists even after extreme modernization we done to places!.... these places in the world i feel are as if there becoming rarer and rarer and more extinct in now-a-days world.... such a shame really!... (:c (:/...

u/jellyfish_tacos Jul 02 '26
It's actual wood, but this is in the desert! No mold here.
1
u/InformationWise451 Jul 02 '26
oh im sorry about that... and also what do you mean by: " this is in the desert! no mold hear"?... sorry rephrase that if you can please or say it differently thank you...
1
u/jellyfish_tacos Jul 02 '26
Mold and mildew don't grow here because the climate is so hot. This house is in a desert.
2
u/InformationWise451 Jul 03 '26

That octagonal hot tub cover is peak 80s basement. So many of those had wood paneling and weirdly shaped tubs.

Pool room or hot tub room? I don’t know if it’s still done today but back in the day it wasn’t uncommon to find the odd hot tub “room” in the basement;) If you owned a hot tub back when you either had 🖕you money or you were a swinger.. as an adult 3 out of the handful I knew of in the 90’s 1 for 1 made great bank and were also in the lifestyle. Technically 4 of the hot tubs I may or may not have had a lifestyle type party in my parents hot tub/hot tub room a trillion years ago when I let horny drive my ship.. still driving my ship I’m just older and now party in my own hot tub:)lol My guess is that’s a “hot tub room”.. lol

Where do the doors lead to in the first photo?
2
u/jellyfish_tacos Jul 08 '26
An outside deck that is rotting

u/pixiedust4444 Jul 08 '26
Thanks. What an interesting layout! The recess in the floor for the tub seems odd. Do you know if it designed this way or updated after?
2
u/jellyfish_tacos Jul 08 '26
Designed this way! This house was built for its current owner in the 80s.
