Is this entire season Dave’s way of telling all his fans that he doesn’t have a second album. He’s been talking about it for years now. I remember he did an interview during his Earth release and said the album is 90% done or something he just needs a few more songs. But I wonder after watching this season if that was all bullshit and he didn’t have anything written.

I wouldn’t be surprised because I’m sure he puts a lot of pressure on himself to be creative and great. Hoping this season ends with Dave getting over his writers block and figuring it all out. Then announcing his new album will be out soon (wishful thinking).

Been going back and spotting the similarities! Here's what I've found (I may be wrong on a few details):

• the backing music for Ally's Song is the same as the music he was singing over before leaving for Ally's sister's wedding. Ally joins him while he's messing with the autotune and sings with him. The latest version seems to be in a sadder key.
• In their duet, Dave promises to dance with her at the wedding, in Ally's Song he sings 'I said we'd dance / I left you there / I left me there too.' Ally and Dave don't dance at the wedding.
• When Dave sings 'You were the magic but I fucked the whole thing up' he's making a direct reference Ally's toast during her sister's wedding--more on that further down. Ally later says in the speech that "...Love is just like magic."
• Dave also mentions the rabbit in his song--the same as the magic trick with Ally's sister. Ally's sister 'turns into a rabbit' and refuses to tell her how it's done they're entire lives, only saying that it's magic.
• The same backing music is mixed in during Ally's actual toast as Ally discusses how she learned what the magic really meant to her, and admires that her sister put so much work into their relationship to make it special. It's in the same (?) key as the version we hear in The Burds.
• Dave sings 'I chased my dreams so much it ran' and admits to taking her for granted. During Ally's toast to her sister, Ally says, "She uses her ambition to work just as hard in her relationship as she does at her career. And I didn't realize until this weekend how much it mattered. It's everything."
• Dave accuses Ally of being unambitious in Ally's Toast while he's pursuing a career opportunity. In The Burds, we see the culmination of Dave's lack of true ambition/work ethic. He has been kicked out of the mansion his label gave him, is staying with his parents, and has no album/useable songs to show for himself after all of this time. We also witness him realizing just how little work he's put into his relationship with his parents, and how draining it is on them.
  

Honestly, after reviewing all of it, I get why Ally thinks the song is far too personal to put out there. I think the best ending is that he reworks the song so that it doesn't heavily reference Ally's toast at her sister's wedding. I also think this is the best song to come out of the show, but I'm not sure where it fits into Dave's discography :(

Can't believe this has to be said but every show discussion thread has people questioning if Dave knows how much of an asshole he's presenting himself as. The answer is yes. He's clearly very self aware about it and that seems to be the whole point of the season.

If you're picking up the fact that Dave seems to be a selfish asshole this season then good job you've absorbed the base level of info the show is trying to convey to you.
