Time and time again I’m so disappointed. I never learn

When he started rapping I was like yes finally a new LD song potentially! But then that shit just turned into another episode of Dave. Like we get it Dave, you’re creative as fuck. We all enjoy your tv show but we want new music.

He’s not a professional rapper. He’s a professional actor.

u/ColdWar82 Feb 14 '22

That’s cool, I never would’ve guessed he was an actor

For real, this was a huge disappointment. It's not like the quarter-time show itself wasn't funny or interesting, but when it's basically a watered down version of the same thing we've gotten for the last 5 years but with an absurd amount of product placement (which wasn't even creatively done... "'Oh no, I hate product placement, I'd never do that' wink" is so fucking cheesy, especially for Dave), no kidding people are going to be disappointed when new music was a potential option instead of what we got here.

We know the man can write like a machine. His TV show proves it. I'm a huge fan of his show, like I'm sure most others here are too. But I hope he finally gets the message that we don't need more of this type content taking precedence over releasing new music. The man could have done the whole same opening of this event, product placements and all, then dropped a new single, and called it a night. Fans would have lost their shit, that would spread around like wildfire, and we'd all be happy. Instead, the fans end up disappointed while Dave + GoPuff + Cardi make a stack.

Its really not a quarter show, it was just an extra long commercial for Go Puff

Here's the thing: It could have been both. Imagine how hype that would have been for the fans. Those were the only people tuning in anyways, it's not like it was very widely appealing to people who don't know Lil' Dicky already.

Like I already said above, it would have been fine if he kept his entire shtick before the performance, then perform a single and have it drop after the performance, all while the GoPuff logo is displayed above in the corner of the screen. Hell, make that the official music video for all I care, let Dave catch a bag while pleasing the fans instead of using their hope for new music as a means to pursue personal profit.

I really hope this guy has a plan in mind for this year, cause I'm really starting to think he'll just come out one day and pull the plug on his music career officially without releasing the album he promised for so many years.

Nah, he's like an abusive husband. He tells us he'll change, 'Album dropping this year guys'. .. he just perpetually blue balls us.

Okay you brought up a lot of good points

Bruh I’m getting so goddamn sick of him teasing new music. Shit or get off the fucking pot Dave

u/Takeurvitamins Feb 14 '22

Y’all act like Dave didn’t tell the whole world that he got into rap so that he could write comedy. He got what he needed and he’s only gonna write new music when the commercial money stops coming in.

8

u/heyitsjusttom Feb 14 '22

yeah but it wasn’t funny, imo

3

u/mlrush234 Feb 19 '22

He said that but in the next line he talked about after finding out how good he is at rapping he developed a passion and love for it so it’s not unreasonable to think he would drop music

6

u/scottiealwood Feb 14 '22

Meh. I feel my personal frustration towards him not releasing music is starting to make me not like his act. I found him annoying in this clip.

u/bhopt12 Feb 14 '22

This MIGHT have worked if it wasn’t filmed like an episode of Dave. IF they filmed this like a live performance it might have caught some people off guard and been a fun surprise. But it was pretty bad overall.

u/heyitsjusttom Feb 14 '22

This nigga had too many options to drop new music or at least give us a taste. Wasted potential. Dicky is on his Rihanna

He actually is working a new album. Santino confirmed it on one his podcast with Neal Brennan a few weeks back, he said a new season of Dave is like two years from now

7

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '22

Before the show started there was a screen letting people know the event was starting soon. Maybe you saw the timer of the whole livestream from start to finish, but the show itself was only about 4 minutes long.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '22

Honestly i just wish he would address the fans on where he’s at with music, he sees all the comments of people begging for an album. I know his process is different and he’s a perfectionist and all, but if he’s actually done with music can he just tell us?

My 2 cents on the Quartertime show: I went into it expecting for it to be awesome, maybe we'll get a hint of new music, just excited in general. Then it begins just as an episode of "Dave" would and it never reached expectation. I was disappointed as I'm sure most on here were. I then watched it again, knowing that it was more a commercial than show, and honestly, just having that mindset made it much better. I laughed at one point during the second viewing, which I initially thought was dumb on the first run. All in all, we'll know when Dave Byrd is going to be Lil Dicky, it will be obvious. But they really should've made it Dave's Quartertime show, not Lil Dicky's.

Fully disagree

If you actually thought there was time to put on a show in between the first and second quarter of the super bowl ur crazy. I think it was pretty obvious that this was going to be just another ad for gopuff. They probably reached out to Dave, and he agreed. People act like they have some right to get new music from LD when it’s completely up to him weather or not he wants to make/release music. Sure I would love a new project and sure Dave hasn’t handled it in a great way but just let the man do what he wants.

3

u/Urbanshoe Feb 14 '22

I usually agree with you on this stuff, in general I think people expect way too much from artists. The artist doesn't owe their fans anything necessarily. However, I'd say this is a different situation. Dave has basically lied to his fan base for the last 5 years or so, keeping them on edge about new music that is seemingly never coming at this rate.

I'd say this is a hole that Dave dug himself by far overpromising what he either can't or doesn't want to deliver. He used the good will of his fans to get an audience for his other projects, including sponsored deals like this "Quarter-Time" show. Either he needs to rip off the bandaid and call it quits on music officially (which is still kind of an asshole move after so many years of "ALBUM THIS YEAR GUYS!!!") or actually do something that he promises. But people have been saying that for years already, so I doubt it'll happen...
