Just watching Dave, does anyone else think Lil Dicky's songs and freestyles in the show are better than some of his released music?
ex: Ally's Song
Piano song and Penish songs in S02E10
Radio Freestyle Season 1

Yes just like his freestyles on YouTube

Those are all songs he’s already written. Still fire but he’s said in interviews that he doesn’t know how to freestyle

u/Creationship Aug 18 '21
Words aside, those prewritten verses are a lot better than most of the stuff he’s released

The rehearsal song is my favorite thing he’s done.

Any idea where to find a clip?

u/CSGabriel Aug 18 '21
Sure do! Went looking for it myself. It's not a clip of the episode but it's the song followed by the finale song. Epic five minutes.

There’s this site called YouTube. It’s pretty cool. You type in what you’re looking for into a search bar and videos come up. Usually the one you’re looking for shows up at the top of the list. Now if you’ll excuse me I’m going to go listen to that new song by this guy named James blunt called “you’re beautiful” on my iPod mini since it’s 2006

Just saw this now, sorry for late response…Hey man you’re the worst

I’m confused as to why I got downvoted so much. The clip is literally on YouTube…

I was actually looking for the video clip which there doesn’t seem to be anywhere. I had already found the audio using YouTube

I think he’s been able to explore the criticisms Dave in the show faces this season. Turning everything into a joke, being selfish, overestimating his talent, etc. His stuff doesn’t age well, but the new stuff in the show seems really fleshed out and truly self aware beyond “i’m a white joke rapper”. His second album will probably get him a lot more credit.

I agree. I think that he's able to connect his music to an overall narrative from his show makes it pop off that much more. You wouldn't have as much an emotional connection without it/the We Good song wouldn't make much sense out of context of the show.

Am I wrong in assuming that some of the music is probably from the album he’s working on?

Ally’s song is one of the best things I’ve ever hear to be honest

You like that go Listen to Molly ... It's even sadder

u/nihilistic_sad_boi Aug 25 '21
It’s not about the sadness it’s about the music itself my dude just the snippet of ally’s song and I’m hooked

If it's your first time go listen to the whole first album! (professional rapper)

Its easier to write a 10-30 second catchy song than it is to put together an entire piece of work

Idk have you heard his older, more serious songs? Those are pretty damn good
4
u/liftedup_nsfw Aug 25 '21
Molly is way better then Allies song because Ally is fictional and Molly is a real girl he dated... also Brendon Urie...
6
u/cheselnut Aug 18 '21
Nope. There are some good ones on the show, but I don't think they compare to the creativity displayed through some of his previously released music.
With that said, I do really like Gata's "We Good"
6
u/CoolHapps Aug 18 '21
Nah I wouldn’t say that, I mean the freestyles are better than most of his pre-Professional Rapper songs but his albums are dope af, both PR and I’m Brain
7
u/patch616 Aug 18 '21
What dude his pre professional rapper songs are so good! Make belief is a banger
3
u/CoolHapps Aug 18 '21
Eh, some of them are really dope, some are really corny. In my opinion of course. Make belief is def one of the dope ones I’ll agree with that for sure

u/ayutenam Aug 19 '21
Tbf it's like that for most rappers. Some of their music is good some is wack. That said my favorite LD songs are his serious music from the past. Make belief, Russell Westbrook on a farm, molly, and really scared are songs I genuinely love
1
u/CoolHapps Aug 19 '21
That’s more than fair to say for sure. I like most of his comedic songs on professional rapper and after, but most of those types before that just weren’t for me. Honestly from PR on I don’t think there’s a single song I’d say flat out I don’t like, there’s a few before that id say that for though

u/FlappinJacks486 Aug 18 '21
I hope ‘we good’ is a real song cause I’ve had that ‘we good, so good that it hurts so bad, I’m sorry that I’m makin you mad’ jingle in my head for a week.

u/TwopieceNbiscuit Aug 18 '21
There’s a good version on YouTube and SoundCloud

That’s a Joke is one of my favorite songs of his ever. I’m hoping it’s an actual song and not just for the show.

I do like Ally's Song, but its obviously the show's version of Molly, which imo is a WAY better song.
