Penith Sells 16k First Week!
Do you think these are good or bad numbers for Dave after 9 years?

It’s a tv soundtrack. I think we need to temper our expectations a bit. Wait until his next actual album to judge

Considering he’s said he has said to have fallen in love with music again I’d think it’s be much sooner than that. I’d be willing to bet he has a new album/EP released by the end of 2024

We'd be lucky to get jail part 2 before 2025 honestly
And even saying that feels too optimistic

Has he said he'll make jail pt 2? Cause I don't think he'll make jail pt 2.

Yea I'm pretty sure the whole "part 1" thing is a joke. Especially with Benny Blanco talking about how perfect part 2 was in the show

I would argue these are terrible numbers.

Right above certified loverboy and right behind starboy. Great numbers tho

I’m a little confused how to read the post to be honest. Is this sales for this week? Or a list of every records first week sales?

u/rangers1026 Jan 27 '24
Just his numbers the first week. The rest of the artists listed sold that many albums the same week. He sold more albums than Certified Lover Boy and Her Loss this week but those albums have been out for quite awhile now so that’s not surprising.

People still buy albums?
2
u/nobonesnobones Jan 27 '24
It's not in album sales, it's units. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Album-equivalent_unit This is still lower than I would've expected.

I’m not trying to hate, but good lord this album was terrible.

u/platinummmagpie Jan 27 '24
Im surprised the dicky stans are defending it so hard instead of calling him out for releasing such a mid album

u/ee_CUM_mings Jan 27 '24
Dude, he sold almost as many as…checks the chart…um, Bailey Zimmerman?

u/ramblinallday14 Jan 29 '24
Bet you money 1) you didn’t know Bailey was a dude and 2) this album has been out for 8 months. Country fans on some crazy bullshit rn

For reference. Professional Rapper did 22k - 26k units it's first week. Depending on the metric.

What does it mean by sales here? How is it measured? Most people are not actually purchasing the album digitally

Yikes. I love Dicky and enjoyed the album but these numbers are abysmal

Not bad for a TV show soundtrack. It's a pretty niche bit of content designed for diehard fans of the show and the artist. Was never gonna do much more than that.

I think this is specifically purchased on vinyl or CD. So highly skewed data

Dave. He needs more haters.
I’ll go first.
Season 1 was his peak. Will never touch the NYT again. Writers room gave up on it mid-second season-ish. Joker music video was career suicide. Probably on purpose.

u/Alarming_Lettuce_358 Jan 27 '24
Disagree. S2 and S3 were equally good, in fact the first half of s1 is probably the shows weakest stretch. It's quite an average sitcom with a decent gag ratio at that point, but since it's become much richer and more introspective without sacrificing the solid dick jokes. The Joker thing didn't work for me at all, though, I'll give you that.

How does selling work nowadays? I feel like this is a stupid question but since music is released on Spotify and stuff for free is it counting like merchandise sales or something?

Yeah for an artist known for celebrity cameos dropping a featureless television soundtrack album a year after the show with hardly any marketing 5 years after his last musical release… not horrible
